Both are sick

It's the last day of Chinese New Year today, also known as "Chap Goh Meh". But is isn't too lucky for Dillon and Kaith as they are both down with coughing and running nose.

It's all started with Dillon coughing since Sunday and I think the virus must have been transmitted to Kaith yesterday. After taking some medicine, Dillon is already recovering now but he still have running nose and hence his appetite isn't very good these days.

As for Kaith, she just started coughing last night. She was sleepless and same for mummy, who doesn't know what to do to comfort her. I seriously have not had "experience" in handling a sick baby because in the past, Dillon has not fell sick except for 2 times of very mild fever after jab, which recovered within the day itself. I cradled Kaith to sleep for almost two hours until my arms became so sore, and of course I didn't get to sleep as well.

The pediatrician said that although Kaith is a breastfeed baby, whom by right have a stronger immune system in her body but in this case, the virus is much stronger and I have to monitor closely and take good care of her, otherwise it might lead to bronchitis.

Now I just hope that both of them get well soon.

There is this legend that says if you rub Vicks on the feet and cover with socks it helps soothes and calm the child at night during their coughing episodes. Not sure if it works. Word of caution. The Vicks label does say it is for >2yrs and above. Perhaps you can purchase the milder Vicks (strawberry) which meant for children. Speedy recovery to the kids, and you take good care too ya... :D

btw, you may wanna try this nasal spray called Sterimar Physiological Sea Water Microspray for nose blocks.. it did help my baby when he had flu and it's natural.. can get from pharmacies.. just one thing, spraying into baby's nose is not that easy.. :-)

Hi Karen,

Hope you & the kids are ok now.

Me too have the same experience like you where the youngest one will get sick more often than the elder one. Their paed said this is normal & things will be getting worst when the elder one go to kindy.

Hi. I'm new to your blog. hope u don't mind me adding your link to mine.

My baby is always down with flu and cough and is usually bad. We had this salbutamol inhaler from our doctor and it helps. Its also rather easy to use.
